Alternative Medicine
Basic principles of complementary / alternative therapies
HOW orthodox medicine has a fairly conventional approach to the disease, Al-alternative medicine. The most commonly used in alternative medicine are the six principles of naturopathic medicine. In one form or another, these principles are revisited again and again in the second section of this text. The following principles are described by Dr. Catherine Downey and her chapter on naturopathic source.
1. The healing power of nature (naturae Vis medicatix)
The body has the innate ability to establish, maintain and restore health. The healing process is ordered and intelligent: the healing of nature through the reaction of the life force. The physician’s role is to facilitate this process and to improve action and to identify barriers to health and recreation, and support the creation of a healthy internal and external environment. In short, the organization provides appropriate tools and heal.
2. Talk (the whole person of the many factors of health and illness)
Health and disease are conditions of the whole organism, so that a complex interplay of physical, emotional, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social. The doctor needs to treat the whole person, taking into account all these factors. The smooth operation of all aspects of the individual is of vital importance for the reversal and prevention of disease and requires a personalized and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.
3. First Do No Harm (Primum no nocere)
The disease is a specific process of the body. The process of healing includes the generation of symptoms which are actually an expression of life force attempting to heal itself. Therapeutic measures should be complementary and synergistic with the healing process. The physician can assist actions or actions of anger vis naturae mediator methods therefore developed the symptoms, not eliminate the underlying causes are considered harmful and are avoided or minimized. Therapeutic measures are congruent effect in an orderly manner with the internal body.
4. Identify and treat the cause (Tolle causam)
Disease does not occur without reason. The underlying causes of disease must be detected and removed before a person or to recover fully from an illness treated. The symptoms are an expression of the attempt to heal the body, but they are not the cause of the disease, ie, natural therapies directed rapidly to the underlying causes of disease rather than symptoms. Causes may occur at different levels, including physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual. The physician must assess the underlying causes at all levels, aimed at treating the cause not the symptom expression.
5. Prevention (Prevention is the best “medicine”)
The ultimate goal of naturopathic treatment is prevention. This is done through education and promotion of lifestyle reached that create good health. The physician assesses risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and makes appropriate measures to prevent further damage and risk to the patient. Emphasis is placed on the health of the population on the fight against the disease. Because it is difficult to be healthy in an unhealthy world, it is the responsibility of the physician and patient to a healthier environment in which we live to create.
6. The doctor as teacher (docere)
In addition, working an accurate diagnosis and appropriate prescription, the physician to create an interpersonal relationship with health-sensitive patient. A cooperative doctor-patient relationship inherent therapeutic value. To promote the doctor important role in education and patient responsibility for health. The physician is a catalyst for healthy change to take on greater responsibility and motivation of the patient. It is true, the patient, not the doctor, who ultimately creates or cure. The physician must strive to inspire hope and understanding. Physicists must be a commitment to personal development and spiritual, to be good teachers.
